Thinking Religiously Together

Wednesday, July 12, 7:00 - 8:00 pm, Online

This presenter for this month’s Thinking Religiously Together is Chris Dart from the Twin Cities Friends Meeting. Quakers maintain a theological precedence of not having “religious leaders”, but Chris Dart has been a "participant and attender" of the TCFM for decades. He will be presenting on the topic, "Reflections on Quaker Practice." He will share his experience of being a Quaker in the Twin Cities. It should be an informative talk! Please join the discussion on July 12th at 7pm on Zoom.

The gathering will last one hour and will feature a presentation, small group discussions and a larger open conversation around the topic. MnMN intends for “Thinking Religiously Together” to be an open and safe place to learn about the beliefs and practices that shape each other’s lives. We wish to learn from and with each other about the significance of the spiritual, the divine and the sacred in our lives and our relationship with our neighbors. We hope this time will help educate and bring us closer together in understanding the beautiful differences and similarities of our lived experiences.

Inter-belief Conversation Cafe: Is There Life Beyond Earth?

Monday, July 17, 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Online

Is a universe with countless trillions of worlds entitled to only one inhabited planet? Our telescopes detect exoplanets with various possibilities of sustaining life. The building blocks of life are found on a moon of Saturn. The Pentagon must finally release its UFO files. Is the truth out there? Is it that nothing else is out there? Are we “lucky” to live on a Goldilocks planet just hot enough, cold enough, and nourishing enough to sustain thoughtful creatures like us? Or do many other worlds brim with creatures equally capable of critical reasoning? If intelligent life exists should we want to encounter it or dread meeting it? Don’t we have enough problems getting along with intelligent creatures -- including ourselves -- here at home?

Inter-belief Conversation Café will look to the skies to see if anyone wants to make first contact. Our agreements of open-mindedness, acceptance, curiosity, discovery, sincerity, brevity, and confidentiality will help keep us rooted on this planet. But all are welcome; no matter what world you inhabit!

Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy in Religiously Diverse Societies

Tuesday, October 17, 12:00 - 1:15 pm, Online

The recent open-access volume Complexities of Spiritual Care in Plural Societies: Education, Praxis and Concepts (De Gruyter, 2022) contributes to an emerging field that could be referred to as "plural spiritual care and chaplaincy," by innovatively bringing together contributions from a broad range of contexts and religious traditions. Including empirical work and conceptual explorations, the volume helps to fill the gap between practices and developments related to plural spiritual care and chaplaincy in the scholarly discourse, and their application for practitioners serving religiously diverse populations in health and chaplaincy settings. In this webinar, editor Anne Hege Grung will introduce the book and project, contributor Nazila Isgandarova will discuss female voices in Islamic spiritual care, and contributor Su Yon Pak will explore Buddhist chaplaincy education at a Protestant seminary. Time will be allowed for discussion and questions. Free and open to the public.

  • Companies generally avoid acknowledging religious differences at work because they fear doing so creates legal risk. This is short-sighted. People’s religious identity is a form of diversity, so religion must be part of any company’s DEI strategy. These seven best practices from Harvard Business Review will help companies embrace religious diversity.
  • A recent Pew Research Center survey shows that 17% of U.S. adults have unfollowed, unfriended, blocked or changed their settings to see less of someone on social media because of religious content the person posted or shared.
